Roaring Fork Watershed — River Conditions

Live snowmelt-runoff conditions across the Aspen–Glenwood Springs corridor, read against half a century of USGS record. Every gauge is shown three ways at once: the river alone, the river among its peers, and the watershed as one system draining to the Colorado.

The Roaring Fork and its tributaries are read live against their long-term normal for today’s date. Right now the featured gauges span of normal; the watershed’s outlet at Glenwood Springs is flowing cfs against a cfs median — of normal. “Normal” is the USGS period-of-record median for the calendar day; figures refresh from USGS each time the page loads.

How “percent of normal” is computed

For each gauge, percent of normal = current discharge ÷ the USGS period-of-record median of daily-mean flow for today’s calendar day, ×100. “Normal” means the long-run median for this day (the standard streamflow benchmark, robust to flood-year skew), drawn from each gauge’s full record — 13 to 70 years depending on the site. The page fetches USGS directly in your browser on load, so figures are current; if a live call fails it falls back to the last embedded snapshot and marks itself accordingly.
